Linear Displacement Mechanisms

The Linear Displacement Mechanisms (LDMs) provide repeatable axial alignment on the Y-axis. The robust production proven devices offer true UHV performance and are available in two sizes providing +/-7.5mm or +/-31mm adjustment. Suitable for use in both production and R&D applications, the LDMs are supplied with a range of actuation methods including manual handwheels, DC or stepping motors.  A range of controllers are also offered for DC motor or stepper motor control.

The LDM design includes two parallel flanges, one remains fixed, whilst the other provides the movement. The device works by adjusting the position of the travelling flange in relation to the fixed system-mounting flange. The travelling flange position is controlled through an external leadscrew.  A kinematic guide mechanism ensures smooth and precise motion.

Vacuum integrity is ensured with the use of high quality, 316L edge-welded bellows, with a minimum design life of 10,000 cycles. The LDMs rigid construction enables large cantilevered loads to be tolerated and allows the units to be mounted in any orientation.

LDMs are used for a number of applications from transfer system alignment, to the adjustment of linear probes to achieve sample hand-off.

Part numbers are configured with the model type and the actuation method required (see the actuation key in the table below). For example, LDM64/64H selects the smaller LDM, with manual handwheel actuation.
