UHV Linear PowerProbes - LPP

The Linear PowerProbe should be selected where linear translation only is required and twisting or turning of the sample would be undesirable. An anti-rotation system is fitted internally ensuring straight, in-line motion, despite any rotation of the external drive carriage. This removes the need for the unwieldy linear guide bars used by other manufacturers. The internal guide system utilises the smoothness of rolling friction to facilitate motion. The manual LPP can be fitted with a bakeable limit switch for the retracted position. The motorised configuration is fitted with similar switches for both the extended and retracted positions.

Specification Table

Linear power version Low Standard High
Stroke 250mm  (10"), 304mm  (12"), 457mm (18"),
609mm (24"), 914mm (36"), 1219 (48")
Actuation H, HR, SD, SS (See series codes below)
Mounting flange CFNW35 70mm (2.75") OD
Linear coupling break away force 70N (15 lbf) 180N (40 lbf) 310N (69 lbf)
Maximum recommended internally applied load (moment) when horizontally installed Click here to view coupling torque graphs
Maximum recommended internally applied load when vertically installed This is a function of the load acceleration. In a static case the load may approach the coupling breakaway force, however, using a safety factor of 5 the coupling would tolerate:
Not suitable for vertical mounting 36N (8lbf) with moderate accelerations 62N (14lbf) with moderate accelerations

Pressure range 5x10exp-11 mbar
Bakeout temperature Manual probes are bakeable to 250°C without removing any components.  Motorised probes are bakeable to 250°C with motor removed.
Position lock Thumbscrew on manual versions only

Part Number Configuration

Series Code
Linear PowerProbe - low power LPPL35

Professional transfer tool part numbers are configured in three sections as shown bellow.  Codes for 'series' and 'actuation' options are listed to the right.

Linear PowerProbe - standard power LPP35
Linear PowerProbe - high power LPPH35
Series Stroke in mm Actuation method

Actuation Method

For example an LPP35-304 -H would select the Linear PowerProbe with 304mm (12") stroke and manual actuation.

Manual H
Manual with bakeable limit switch for retracted position HR
Side mounted 24V d.c. motor with bakeable limit switches at extended and retracted positions SD
Side mounted stepper  motor with bakeable limit switches at extended and retracted positions SS
